Carnegie Hall Slashes Schedule and Budget

Legendary New York venue Carnegie Hall has announced it will be scaling back its schedule for the 2009/2010 season, due to the economic recession.

The Hall’s calendar bookings have been reduced by 10 percent, and a hiring freeze has been placed on the venue. In addition, the budget has been reduced by $4 million.

According to The Associated Press, the budget for next season will be even lower then the reduced budget for the current one. Usually 200 concerts take place per season, but this year only 180 are due to be staged.

The report also says that donations from individuals to Carnegie Hall were down 17 or 18 percent, but that corporate donations were comparable to previous years.
